normativity

(watch "Norman," performed by the Andrew D'Angelo Big Band)

“Norman”

Particles dissected in a large-scale pictorial

we see auditory move ocularly

in a new contraption taser construct

you’re zapping my ears with wavering flecks.

A space – hmmm – for breathing, whistle-clapping and awaiting

saliva glanduating, mouth-to-mouthpiece – he’s licking

bamboo, a reed, in preparation

inside the realization, self-eulogizing

D’Angelo, the psalm is pre-mortem,

it’s the internal regime. A tumorous non-solution,

your defense triumphant. You initiate

collective celebratorial, big band, audience

in a pagan reincarnate rite.

What a glowing complementary McHenry, who wrote the plea

in a plaintive and serious tuning, what tone-play.

Tight-lipped and savage with closed-eyed faces, panting into brass,

horning, jutting, hips fingers knees toes.

All players enacting the fantasmagorial call and acceptance,

the waves fill the sound-room in the brain, bouncing off of mirrors

foundation-gnarling holes in jazz epoch.
